Questions You Should be Asking the World Around You

Music Can’t be Silenced – Valentina Lisitsa

Valentina lisitsaIncredibly incredibly talented Valentina Lisitsa.  A Ukrainian born concert pianist and a very nice person, (according to her fans).  Artists can see the picture before it is painted, and mathematicians can feel the answer when working on equations. Musicians, musicians have their own special brand of uniqueness where they use timing, and their knowledge of human emotions, to create beautiful music.

Valentina Lisitsa was scheduled to perform the Rachmaninoff Concerto #2 with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, but Ukrainian internet trolls wanted revenge for Valentina expressing her opinions on Kiev.  They pretended to be more insulted than they actually were by claiming that Valentina’s tweets were having a destructive effect on the drive to promote Kiev’s failing government.

NedoUkrainka is a play on Ukraine’s prime minister’s words early in 2014 where he described the Russian speaking citizens of Ukraine as ‘sub-humans.’  Nedo meaning sub, and Ukrainka meaning Ukrainian.  It was a familiar term used in Nazi propaganda at the height of WW2 against Jews, Poles, Blacks, homosexuals, and enemies of Nazi Germany.  Valentina is Ukrainian herself, but it is not a big surprise that Kiev would so quickly turn against their own.

We’ve seen this happen to even their own police officers in Ukraine.

The law officer said that pro-Ukrainian servicemen were left there in chaos, disoriented, without any commands arriving from Kiev. When the pro-independence fighters eventually took over their town, the generals betrayed them by accusing them of sympathizing with the eastern independence supporters.

The Toronto Symphony Orchestra, intimidated by threats and insults, sided with the trolls and cancelled Lisitsa’s performance. They offered to pay her compensation to keep quiet.  Little did the managers at TSO know that nobody likes Kiev.  Lisitsa went to her fans and told them her story:

Lisitsa turned to Facebook on Monday with a plea, asking her fans for support to “tell Toronto Symphony that music can’t be silenced.”

“Someone in the orchestra top management, likely after the pressure from a small but aggressive lobby claiming to represent Ukrainian community, has made a decision that I should not be allowed to play,” she wrote, referring to her TSO performances on Wednesday and Thursday. “I don’t even know who my accusers are, I am kept in the dark about it.”

Now it is a case of the tide turning against the aggressor as thousands of artists, and musicians and celebrities, have all rallied together in support of Valentina.  People from all over the world are experiencing their first encounter with neo-nazi fascist Kiev.

If it wasn’t clear enough before, it certainly is now.  The word is spreading to new areas of consciousness.  Valentina is now gaining more and more fans, becoming more popular than before.

nedoukrainian2Bravery, strength, excellence.

Music can’t be silenced. We love Valentina.
