Questions You Should be Asking the World Around You
We were all shocked when Oil dipped low. It was previously unimaginable. Some argued that it was strategy on America’s part to trigger a recession in Russia. Others said it was Saudi Arabia’s plan to exert control over the international shale oil industry. But one thing that I didn’t hear any speculation about was how it affected the leadership inside of IS.
In order for the US to control ISIS, they have to burn oil and dollars to ship weapons to the middle east. It also costs money to pay the salaries of coordinators, interpreters, agents, contractors, and also to bribe politicians, civilians and journalists.
By lowering the price of oil to unmanageable levels, Saudi Arabia placed itself in a better position to leverage more influence over ISIS leadership away from the US. Less Americanism and more Wahhabism.
It seemed incredibly odd that ISIS never moved away from the eastern desert regions of Syria, while its counterparts (Al-Q, Nusra) were actively chipping away at Assad’s defenses.
This told us that ISIS was
a) interested only in establishing a state and not really concerned with toppling Assad.
b) money, because there’s no fucking farming or chicken industry in the desert.
c) acting as placeholders, babysitters in the desert regions of Syria. (Remember when they told you ISIS was “too extreme?”)
This was made more apparent when ISIS only demanded money in those disgusting decapitation videos.
b) bombing empty dirt fields.
Then the rift between the US and the Sauds emerged.
Saudi Arabia started flirting with Russia instead of courting the US. The Mainstream news continued to flood the airwaves with speculation about the price of oil. How long it would last, how low it would go, how it was doing us a lot of good because it hurt Russia bad. People stopped paying attention to the politics in the middle east.
Assad was getting hammered, and all the while, battle maps showing ISIS controlled areas in relation to Al-Q/Nusra territories remained stale and unchanging. An obvious suppression of information.
A very recent battle map:
Now that Russia has established forward bases in Syria, Israel jumped on the bandwagon to also flirt with Russia.
