Questions You Should be Asking the World Around You
What can you do with 10 million USD a day?
With 10 million dollars you can build a school, pay a qualified staff their salary with the leftover money from construction, and boost the economy through the purchase of materials. With 10 million, you can build rehab centers, counseling centers, fitness centers, art exhibits, libraries.
But 10 million is instead being spent on foreign aid for one country in the middle east. Please refer to HDI info from the previous post:
In 2007, the Bush Administration changed its foreign aid policy to Israel from one that was economic, to another that was purely militaristic in nature. This is significant because it acknowledged that Israel was no longer in need of foreign aid, and that an official stance was taken by the US that pegged Israel as a country that was under threat from all its neighbors. Was this factually based however? Examine this map.
With the exception of Lebanon in 2006, no country has attacked Israel in the last 10 years. The conflict with Palestine is one that has its roots in the illegal occupation of Palestinian land. Palestinian children being treated as slaves in illegal settlement farms, Palestinians being abducted and imprisoned with no charge, wide-scale oppression of the Palestinian minority, Palestinian homes bombed and bulldozed and replaced with illegal settler houses, fishing lanes being marked as kill-zones for Palestinian fishers. The list goes on.
US bilateral aid to Israel changed significantly in 2007. A chart indicating the change is shown below.
If we take this change in 2007 at face value, it would mean that Israel would now have a military edge against its middle eastern neighbors. Literally David vs Goliath with Goliath being represented by the combined might of Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, Iraq, and the UAE.
With that said, which of these countries; from 2007 and on, has Israel used its military might against?
Economic and military oppression.
To further prove this point, Israel took an official stance on the Middle East’s richest nations. (Oil exporting nations.) Israel considered itself equal to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE. Israel did not consider itself threatened by any external superior force.
