A terrible accident at lake Syamozero in Karelia when a strong storm hit a group of 12 to 15 yr old children. 36 people have been rescued, but at least 13 children and 1 instructor are confirmed dead. According to SputnikNews, the children who died did not have safety jackets. One of the instructors who organized the boat trip has been detained.
Natalya Stolyarova, who owns a puppy farm near the lake says one of her employees discovered survivors from one of the boats that capsized. 11 children were able to get out of the water on their own. The children were close to freezing when the employee found them. They are currently being given urgent medical assistance.
A criminal case has been launched to investigate the incident. Russian Children’s Ombudsman Pavel Astakhov has sent investigators to the scene.
