Questions You Should be Asking the World Around You

Why Music Was So Much Better in the Past

I invite you to watch this video by the B52’s.  The lyrics, in their simplicity say nothing, yet the melody that the words were built around makes people come back again and again to listen to it. The song in its entirety leaves a lasting impression.

In contrast, the music from today is muddied way too much by the lyrics.

For example, Katy Perry’s song: U’re so gay.

I hope you hang yourself with your H&M scarf
While jacking off listening to Mozart
You bitch and moan about LA
Wishing you were in the rain reading Hemingway
You don’t eat meat
And drive electrical cars
You’re so indie rock it’s almost an art
You need SPF 45 just to stay alive

You see that block of bullshit up there? There are too many ideas crammed into one verse.  Imagine someone humming to the melody and then getting stressed out for not remembering the lyrics.

I think that’s the mistake the music industry keeps repeating these days. They try too hard to push identity politics onto  music.

I’m not a Katy Perry fan, but let’s just say I was a fan, in order for me to enjoy the song, I’m going to have to convert to vegan, shop at Walmart, move to New Jersey, and masturbate to Eurovision.

doggy

I wonder if Katy Perry has a hairy asshole.

Music was much better back in the 70s and 80s. Not just the lyrics, but the sound, the instrumentation was higher quality. Note the popularity of musical groups from that time still selling out concert venues even though the players are in their 50s and 60s.

Oh yeah! 70’s and 80’s music are on my music list. My collection of 90’s music are all packed up in boxes and stored in the attic.
