Questions You Should be Asking the World Around You
On October 2018, theGuardian published an article titled “Is the US in an ‘illegal’ immigration crisis? Border Patrol Data Suggests Otherwise.” Let’s overlook the word -illegal- in that title just for idiots’ sake.
In it, theGuardian tries to convince you that it’s not as bad as it “looks,” so let’s frame this in a different way so that Nancy and Chuck won’t have any excuses the next time somebody gets hurt though:
Wages and voting dilution
But illegal border crossings have declined significantly from record highs in the early years of the 21st century.
According to the latest statistics from US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), 396,579 undocumented people were apprehended after entering the country illegally in 2018.
Another 124,511 people presented themselves at ports of entry, many seeking humanitarian protection, but immigration officials found them inadmissible.
In 2000, however, more than 1.6 million illegal border crossers were apprehended. In 2001, the figure was 1.3 million.
In the early 2000s, the largest group of undocumented migrants caught entering the US were Mexican men crossing to work. When caught, border patrol sent them back without long-term detention or court proceedings.
Radical anti-immigrant bureaucrats in the executive branch will find new ways to criminalize refugees, separate children from parents, and deploy military personnel on the border.
People will keep walking – and they will follow a northern star.

(especially of change or action) relating to or affecting the fundamental nature of something; far-reaching or thorough.
‘a radical overhaul of the existing regulatory framework’
Advocating or based on thorough or complete political or social change; representing or supporting an extreme or progressive section of a political party.
‘a radical American activist’

And on it we see this image:
These are the stats for migrants who have been stopped at the Southwest Border. The Southwest Border likely refers to California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. Inadmissibles are the people who tried to enter the US legally but were turned back.
100k people were stopped in October and November. 20k were considered inadmissible. 122k people total.
Look at the year end statistics for the years 2014 to 2018.
Here’s a section of a packed stadium by Getty Images. That looks to me like a picture of 1200 to 1500 people. The Michigan Speedway has a seating capacity of 125000 people.
Those stats up above are only apprehensions at the Ameri/Mexi border. There’s also apprehensions by planes and by boat.
So add 137,259 instances of criminal activity in 2016.
111,384 in 2017.
45,191 in 2018.

So the way that theGuardian framed it is that no, the US is not in an immigration crisis relative to previous years. But on the whole, the US has been in a crisis for over 4 years.
And these two chucklefucks are responsible for shutting down the government just to keep it going.
