Questions You Should be Asking the World Around You

Vintage Tech

Vrrrrt, whrrrrrrrr! Gosh I still remember making my first ever phone call. It was to my cousin back when I was 6 or 7, and I didn’t even know what I was going to say to him. I was so shy because even though he was my cousin, I had never talked on the phone with him before.

And the rotary phones that my family used to own, those things were so cool.  I can’t recall what we talked about, but I do remember the long periods of silence during the phone call. Back then it didn’t matter, because the telephone did not run on batteries.

This is what a rotary phone looks like. This is how we used to communicate back in the 70’s and 80’s. It’s funny to read articles on the internet about it. Kids these day right? “Oooooh, what is that? It’s so weiiiirrrd bro!”

Look at the numbers. You can’t star-69 anybody with that. LMAO. Which meant that prank calling people was a whole lot more fun back in the old days.

I’ve also got this really awesome receiver that I found in an old house a long time ago. It’s uh, how should I describe it? It’s built like a tank! It’s heavy, it’s got actual steel parts in it, and it still works!

These things were manufactured in 1982.  The tape deck is toast, and the speakers are shredded, but the receiver still works beautifully. JVC man, real quality stuff.  I’d like to ask JVC one day how they manufactured these things, because compared to what we have nowadays, these things are just absolutely made to last.  I’m using it right now! Which reminds me, I’ve got to crack that thing open tomorrow and clean it.  It’s probably got a lot of dust inside, and I want to make sure that it stays in proper working condition.
